Dear Premier,
Firstly I must say you have done a fantastic job as Premier. I am yet to run into a Queenslander who isn’t now proud to be a Queenslander stating lower costs of living, lower crime and a better health system than all other states.
I am writing to you regarding the abhorrent draconian road user tax the federal government wants to impose on a small but growing minority.
How a government that promotes itself as green and a strong proponent of Net Zero by 2050 can propose a tax that discourages an emission free form of transportation.
The claim EV owners do not pay to use the roads is preposterous. We pay registration! Fuel excise goes to general revenue not unlike the electricity taxes we pay or the higher stamp duty and GST we pay due to the higher cost of purchase of the vehicle compared to a comparable sized petrol or diesel car.
Norway is much like Queensland with great natural resources (oil) yet Norway encourages EV take up through tax exemptions and fantastic charging infrastructure. Norway wanted its citizens to have a clean environment with no pollution and a lower cost of living.
Worth a watch:
I see Brisbane is doing great things with lowering pollution with the growing fleet of full electric buses.
Many of Australias city’s are choking with poor air quality yet this discriminating pollution encouraging tax is being put forward to the states. Hospitals are also regularly filled with those suffering with respiratory problems.
Our family and business are pro EV with now 7 EVs at work. We encourage our staff to use EVs and provide free charging.
Apart from the obvious environmental benefits the lower cost of transport is a huge benefit to our staff and our children.
Unfortunately this new tax will end the viability of EV Ownership when compared financially to purchase & operating a comparable diesel or petrol powered car.
Please oppose this tax for Queenslanders as this is not who or what we are about.
Please feel free to call me on 04xxxx or email me to discuss. I would be honoured!
Regards
