The tax on fossil fuels is not a road tax, like every other country the tax is there to limit the usage of fossil fuels
The current tax on fuel is not used for roads, it is added to the general tax income of the Australian government
The new proposed tax is a way to stimulate more Fuel usage and discourage people who limit fuel consumption
The Australian government is considering a national road user charge for electric vehicles (EVs) to replace lost fuel excise revenue. To address concerns about this tax, consider the following steps:
The federal government plans to introduce a road user charge to compensate for the decline in fuel excise tax revenue as more drivers switch to low- and zero-emission vehicles.
Details are still being discussed, but the charge is expected to be a per-kilometre tax on EV drivers.
Follow updates from us, we will try to collect as much information as possible from reputable sources, such as news outlets and government websites, to stay informed about the proposal's progress.
Join other online forums or discussions with other EV owners to share concerns and ideas.
Reach out to your local members of parliament to express your concerns about the potential impact of the road user charge on EV adoption.
You can also participate in public consultations or surveys to provide feedback on the proposal.
The Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) is already advocating for a universal, mass × distance road user charge, which they believe would be more equitable.
Consider supporting organizations like AEVA or signing petitions that promote EV-friendly policies.
Equity: Emphasize the need for a fair and equitable system that doesn't discourage EV uptake.
Impact on Adoption: Highlight the potential impact of the road user charge on EV adoption rates and the environment.
Alternative Solutions: Explore alternative solutions, such as a gradual introduction of the charge or exemptions for certain groups
The two main goals setup by Australia to address climate change.

This additional tax is not helping anyone! We all know that the roads are not build by the tax on fossil fuels and it's not practical to have a tax for people who use less fossil fuels (or no fossil fuels).
We need to stimulate people driving low emission cars and not penalise them!
In Australia there is an uptake in electric vehicles, but we are still years behind other countries because of previous policies. As such the EV owners are a minority and it wouldn't be fair to double tax them
Yes there is a tax on electricity and we are being charged beyond what is reasonable by the government electrcity companies. There is no reason for another tax on the energy taxes we are already paying
A lot of people and companies have invested in electric vehicles or facilities to help (charge) EVs. They have been told that rebates and help would be provided by the Australian government! it would not be fair to give them a subsidy on the purchase, but charge them more for the usage of their car!
